Artist Profile
Rita Curtis began her career at the Art Students League of New York where she studied painting, drawing and art anatomy with David Leffel, Frank Mason, Vincent Malta, and Robert Beverly Hale. After a family move to Baltimore, she pursued additional art study with Ann Schuler at the Schuler School of Fine Art.
For several years Rita designed publications — many of which she edited, wrote or illustrated — for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. During this time she traveled to Africa and Asia to help transfer communication skills to health professionals, often instructing with publications that she had written or designed.
Rita's work has been juried into the national Oil Painters of America shows for the last two years. Her painting "The Writer" received an Award of Excellence, placing among the top ten (7th) at the 2006 OPA national show. Rita has exhibited at the Salmagundi Club of New York, the Charcoal Club of Baltimore, the Maryland Federation of Art, the Grand Style Gallery, and the York Art Association.
